Marjan Šarec

Member, European Parliament and Standing Rapporteur, European Parliament for Montenegro

Marjan Šarec (born 2 December 1977) holds a degree from the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television at the University of Ljubljana. He began his professional career at RTV Slovenija, where he contributed to various projects as an editor and presenter. In 2010, he was elected Mayor of the Municipality of Kamnik, serving two terms. In 2018, with his party LMŠ, he participated in the parliamentary elections and subsequently served as Prime Minister of Slovenia from 2018 to 2020. Between June 2022 and July 2024, he held the position of Minister of Defence in the current Slovenian government, until he was elected to the European Parliament. He is a member of the liberal political group Renew Europe. Currently, he serves as a Member of the Committee on Security and Defence, the Committee on Transport and Tourism, and as a Substitute Member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, as well as the European Parliament’s Standing Rapporteur for Montenegro.
